CHILDREN’S PRIVACY POLICY
Effective Date: Jan 1, 2020
EDmama, Inc. (“EDmama,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of children using our educational services. This Children’s Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard personal information from children under the age of 13 (“Child”) when they access our services under parental supervision.
By creating a Child profile linked to a Parent Account and allowing a Child to use the EDmama Service, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this Policy.
1. CREATING A CHILD PROFILE UNDER A PARENT ACCOUNT
A Parent must first purchase a user license through EDmama, register an account, and accept the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and this Children’s Privacy Policy. The Parent can then create profiles for each Child authorized to use the Service. Children cannot access the Service unless the Parent first logs in and selects the Child’s profile.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM OR ABOUT CHILDREN
A. Information Provided by Parents
When setting up a Child profile, the Parent provides the following details:
- Profile Name (we recommend using a non-identifiable name)
- Avatar Selection
- Secret Word (functions similarly to a password, but cannot be used independently of the Parent’s login credentials)
We do not request birthdates or other personal identifiers for the Child profile.
B. Information Collected During Use of the Service
When a Child accesses the Service under a Parent Account, we collect:
- Learning Activity Data (e.g., responses to questions, quiz performance, reports, and awards)
- Usage Data (e.g., login timestamps, time spent on lessons, session activity)
- Device and Browser Information (e.g., IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and language preferences)
- Tracking Technologies (cookies, web beacons, and analytics tools to improve the Service, maintain security, and personalize content)
We use this information solely to enhance the educational experience and ensure service functionality. We do not collect precise geolocation data or use Child information for targeted advertising.
3. HOW WE USE CHILD INFORMATION
We use collected information to:
- Provide personalized learning experiences
- Generate progress reports and awards
- Improve platform functionality and security
- Respond to Parent inquiries and support requests
- Maintain compliance with applicable privacy laws
We never use Child data for marketing, advertising, or commercial purposes.
4. DISCLOSURE OF CHILD INFORMATION
We do not sell, rent, or share Child personal information for commercial purposes. However, we may share data in the following limited circumstances:
- With Service Providers: We work with trusted vendors who assist in hosting, analytics, and customer support. These providers are contractually bound to protect Child data.
- With Legal Authorities: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request.
- During Business Transactions: In the case of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred, subject to this Policy.
- Aggregated or De-Identified Data: We may share anonymized usage statistics for research and development.
5. THIRD-PARTY TRACKING AND ADVERTISING
EDmama does not display targeted advertising on its platform.
However, when Parents access the Service, third-party advertising networks may collect browsing data. To prevent third-party tracking, we disable such technologies when a Parent logs into the Service. Parents can manage cookies and tracking settings through their browser preferences.
6. ACCESSING AND DELETING CHILD DATA
Parents can review and modify Child profile details at any time by logging into their account. To delete a Child’s information:
- Within the Account Dashboard: Parents can remove a Child profile.
- By Request: Parents can request data deletion by contacting privacy@edmama.com.
Upon request, we will delete or de-identify personal data associated with a Child profile, except where retention is required by law.
7. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS
When EDmama contracts with schools, Student Data is collected and processed in accordance with applicable educational privacy laws. Schools are responsible for obtaining parental consent where required.
If your Child accesses EDmama through a school, please contact the school directly to request access or deletion of Student Data. EDmama will comply with valid school requests.
8. INTERNATIONAL COMPLIANCE & GOVERNING LAW
This Children’s Privacy Policy complies with Hong Kong privacy laws and other international regulations governing children’s online privacy.
All disputes arising under this Policy shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Hong Kong, in accordance with the rules of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).
9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Children’s Privacy Policy periodically. Any material changes will be communicated via email or in-Service notifications. Continued use of the Service after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
